Here we are again warriors with topic number two I had yet to blog about until now. Running. I mean really if you followed the WWE back then, nobody ran to the ring like the Ultimate Warrior! He wasn’t running a race but that seems to be how life is these days, doesn’t it?
We are “running to the store,” or “running errands,” or even “running the kids somewhere.” Always running to something is a constant theme for people. We do need to do those things but let’s remember to slow it down just a little at times. The Ultimate Warrior didn’t slow down but Warrior himself did. Always- no. At times- yes.
Personally, I could never be a runner. Jogging I can do and have or power walking or even biking but running- not so much. No track and field, 5 or 10 K’s my way but I’ll watch for sure. Some are complete naturals with that ability or at least have a passion to pursue. My sisters were runners when they were younger and one continued into adulthood some. I even disliked running for games such as hide and seek or tag! It just isn’t for me and that’s fine. Life is a marathon, not a sprint so take time to enjoy it all along the run…
Our lives will take us in many different directions and running metaphorically will factor in. Warrior “ran” his other business ventures as many entrepreneurs need to do. We will “run” to the next stage of our lives over time but again as always, slow to catch your breath before it all goes by. Be the tortoise, not the hare. Maybe not that slow but enough to notice.
How about your life warriors? Is it difficult for you not to constantly run to the next activity or project? I do realize all our situations are entirely different and sooner or later we will need that downtime. Some may panic and think if they don’t keep that continuous cycle of running , they’ll miss out on their youth or become boring. That’s for you to figure out on your own as it is ok to be busy. Just remember to schedule rest as we all need to take it.
Running a race concretely means to get to a finish line and place. You may win, be in the middle, or be last but you finish- hopefully. Running a race figuratively means to focus more on the journey in between and not the destination. Many Ultimate Warrior fans know he used that expression and it’s true. Sure, you can say our spirit’s goal is “parts unknown” or an afterlife but it’s more your feelings and a state of mind than an actual “place” to go. That’s what I believe. A place or finish line is easier to understand though. πππ»
I hope however many races you are running that you can stay present for them all. Each one deserves your best and if you can’t give that, let some go. You aren’t quitting running but just being in those races that are truly important to you. Often times, running can become routine which some love but some need a new challenge. Runners may want music, nature, a buddy, workout gear, or a machine. Others just go without any of that stuff. You decide how those races are run and switching it up can be fun too. Of course this applies to actual running but just like events in our lives, make it interesting.
The Ultimate Warrior was criticized for running and even shaking ropes as I wrote last week. He did it to be different and exciting. Never boring. At least it never and he never was to me. All you runners out there— why do you run? I’m sure it’s not T.V. related but for so many other reasons.
We’re all runners really. Some aren’t physical runners including myself but we all have our races to run. They’re just little races that add up to bigger ones all the time. At the end of your physical “race” on Earth, I hope you can say you ran it well. Yes, obstacles and detours will block your path but it’s up to you deciding how to run and which way to go.
Run That Race warriors and make sure you are winded enough to know it matters. It doesn’t matter how you finish only that you ran it the best for your life. Slow and steady wins the race…
