It’s December time again and that means you’ll only be reading a few more posts from me until I break for the rest of the year. This will sorta be a Christmas one as next week brings my annual year in review. That’s gonna be a biggie so lace up your boots and get your gear out for the 2024 wrap up! Today though is about those two words above of being naughty or nice which I know totally applies to the holiday season, right? If you were the latter, you’d get most of what would be on your list to Santa but if you were the former, coal in your stocking was told to you I bet. Some may know I always wanted the UW wrestling buddy doll you see Warrior with down below. I had talked about a dream I had years ago and even used a pic of one in the audience. This time~~~ you get Warrior holding his as he was so excited when they came out.
I’m not too fond of those words in the title today actually. First off, being naughty can pertain to some stuff totally unrelated with being bad. Ya know~~~ when “BAD”means more of adult language if you get what I’m saying. 🤭Secondly, being nice is not defined as we may think. When growing up, we are told by parents or other adults to be “nice” always and for many of us, we were. Well, I hope you tried your best. Nice implies a somewhat artificial connotation by my standards. I have been nice, done nice, put on that happy face, and all that but you know what? It doesn’t get you anywhere warriors. By this, I mean that it can come across as obligatory or out of guilt. I am not that way anymore although sometimes, I stray like we all do.
Being nice can imply you get taken for granted, treated like a “doormat” or it is just assumed you will do it all for others. Nope, that is not how it should be and Warrior would never have engaged in any of that. I’m not saying he wasn’t nice but I think it’s more about the word of being KIND… That’s a totally different word. Just like my thoughts on neutrality versus maybe being in the middle of last week. It just resonates better and works in a whole new way. When we are kind, we do to others out of goodness which is heart centered, and not head centered from how it’s supposed to be. Are you feeling this with me?
Kindness involves more action and doing while niceness involves more passivity and being. Yes, they can be quite similar and often times are very much. It’s another one of those word combos we as a society tend to lump together (no pun intended!) like coal as being too synonymous which in fact, they really are not. Let’s revert back to that word of naughty. Seriously, were any of you ever called that as a kid? It seems extremely outdated but who doesn’t like alliteration with those two words? It reminds me of the Golden Era in the WWF years for fans old enough to know. Redemption or revenge as well of a few posts ago.
Unless you really were horrible as a child, naughty seems so extreme. If there were financial constraints in a family, maybe a few gifts were received this time of year but most got a little something under the tree. 🎄 Kids nowadays get truckloads but I gotta say~~~ mine were always limited to probably 6 or so. There’s that number again.
I know times are very different now but spoiling or doting in unhealthy ways does little for self-worth. I had always desired to do that 3 gifts rule. Do you know what it is? One gift is something you’d want, one is a need, and the last is one to share I believe. Correct me if I’m wrong. I would often give my kids something to share like a sled or board game. I have spoiled a little though. When I was young, we did receive a small toy in our stocking along with candy. I put other fun items in ours nowadays because sometimes we do like to start our own traditions and that’s OK. Too much candy isn’t good anyway! I like candy canes though… Don’t get me started on gift giving though as I know that can be a tricky area for many. I prefer gift cards to give to some but it does depend on the person. Sometimes, it just becomes too materialistic for me as I’ve said before.
So, warriors~~~have you been naughty or nice this year? Oh, those words… My dad did actually place toy lumps of coal in our stockings one year as a joke but I do not recommend that to try on little ones. They will truly believe they’ve been too naughty and Santa doesn’t care. We can’t have that. This month is yet another crazy one in my family and it will be quite busy. Hard to believe month 12 is here but I am ready for new energy. You are running out of days warriors so get your lists in and remember to practice kindness. I will as well. The UW wrestling buddy doll isn’t on my list anymore but it will always be special to me in other ways. I’m never naughty… or at least not in the kid way! 😂 We can be nice, but it’s better to be kind.
