I bet I fooled you all with this title. It isn’t about Warrior in the way you might think. π€After a few emotional weeks of writing, I’m back to a simpler one in a way. It’s much needed for me personally as I often thought of three other Jims in our lives. A few years back, I wrote about “The James Boys” regarding my son’s friends I was chaperoning for a school field trip. What a fun day that was. Well, that got me thinking of adult Jims that just happened to be in my husband’s life and mine. Could this even be a post? It is now and I needed a lighter topic anyway. Here’s the stories of our three Jims. *** Don’t worry, no mention of those other Jims on “Dark Side of the Ring.” Not those at all.., π
When my husband was in middle and high school playing football, he had a best friend named Jim. They were super close and remained friends despite attending different colleges. He has so many pictures of them together just hanging out at each other’s houses. I loved knowing it all. Years later, my husband was best man in his 1st wedding and then he was best man in ours. Jim later remarried and had a daughter shortly after our son was born. I became friends with his second wife and visited when we could since they were out of town. They still kept in touch until early last year when things changed.
Jim had many issues over the years which caused much pain in various ways with his life. Politically, he and my husband disagreed tremendously but still seemed close. Jim then “unfriended” and also “blocked” my husband from facebook as it worsened. His marriage was falling apart and he was living elsewhere. He wouldn’t return phone calls either. My husband was devastated to hear all this and has lost contact with him pretty much. This is sad, I know π₯but the Jim connection was there. It was there for over 30 years.
Another Jim in his life for a long while was a roommate he had over 25 years ago to share house expenses with. This guy is Jim B. number 2! No joke, both last names with a B. He was originally from South Dakota and we visited his family back in 2016 on our way to Keystone. That’s when my daughter found an Indiana quarter which is told in my book Spirit and Belief. Fun little tidbit… After being in Ohio many years, meeting his wife, and having three kids, he finally got transferred back to his hometown of Sioux Falls. They love it out there and I did too. Great family and my husband still has HIM on facebook. They keep in touch thru texting or phone calls sometimes too.
For me, I knew a Jim D. He was my boss at the second preschool I worked at for almost 8 years. We had our share of ups and downs but he was part of my life with lots of memories- good and bad. He could be a little “shady” with some personal aspects of his life but us teachers stood firm. I’d stand up to him many times as the warrior in me needed to do over various tasks. I’ve mentioned this Jim before as that school was in a few dreams of mine involving Warrior and Randy. He shook Randy’s hand as I will always remember. This was the school where we built obstacle courses and things like that. It was very different for me but so exciting too. The school is still there and I pass it on occasion. We bring our memories wherever we go, all of them.
These three Jims all remained in our lives for a while and created longevity just like another “Jim” did for me when I was a teen. Many years may pass, we lose contact, but always remember. Maybe we reconnect, maybe we don’t. My husband only has one Jim actively in his life now and I have one as well which you all know to be Warrior. I just remembered another Jim… His name is Jim Johnston and he is the gifted musician who created the Ultimate Warrior’s theme music of “Unstable.”
Maybe some of you have Jims in your life too. I hope they bring you more good memories than bad since that’s how it should be. Your Jims won’t be like mine but we all have one that is ultimately the same. Sure, he’ll always be Warrior to us and that’s ok. I just wanted to share a little of our Jims besides Warrior with all of you.
My husband and I both only have one Jim who we connect with anymore but for me, it’s in a different way now. One was famous, the other one not but the longevity will always remain with both. My son had his James Boys and we have the grown up Jims. Sometimes those adults named Jim could be difficult but they also showed their caring side. We have so many differences yet can be alike too. I’ve liked all the Jims in my life despite their flaws. I know they like me too despite mine. Thank you Jims for making me see all sides and especially thank you Warrior for all of yours. Whether he’s James, Jim, or Warrior- he’s all three to me. πππ
P.S. I do have to add yet ANOTHER Jim to this group! The mayor of our town is Jim G. Get this– my husband went to high school also with him and they lifted together in the weight room! ππ»ββοΈ Oh, my brother’s middle name is James and we are very close. πGuess it’s the FIVE Jims after all!
*** WOW— my YouTube video on the Ultimate Warrior A&E bio has close to 800 views in a few weeks. Thank you to all those who left positive comments. I am truly humbled and thank you for being true fans of Warrior. ππ»ππ»ββοΈ
