Do any of you remember this classic children’s book of The City Mouse and the Country Mouse? Many years ago, I bought this nice collection of books from a preschool fundraiser. My kids are teens now but Mama loves books and ya gotta keep the classics~~ right warriors? With winter fast approaching and the Holidays coming, this thought came to mind. I live in the Midwest only one state away where Warrior grew up. That’s a chapter in my book Spirit and Belief.
I am not a cold weather person and also prefer one of those geographic locations listed above. Can you guess? The country mouse suits me better. Preferably out west. The Warrior Family made their home in New Mexico but up in the mountains, you’ll still find snow. Warrior obviously preferred more of a country lifestyle with warmer temperatures as I hope to move someday also.
We are not far from our downtown but all the crowds, traffic, and noise just isn’t for me. If you read last week’s post, you might have an idea. I just get anxiety but prefer more solitude and SPACE. We do have some acreage between neighbors so owning land is a must. One day I’ll get to see a sunrise or sunset without it being blocked by trees. I can drive somewhere but it isn’t the same thing. It’s beautiful no matter where you live but the country atmosphere brings calm and peace. It could bring boredom to some but we do need to improvise.
Sure, sometimes I do like to be around a bustling event in the city but at the end of a day, the country mouse would be me. Even though Warrior resided in a few big cities throughout his career, the country aspects fit him more. We are the same in that regard. There are positives and negatives to both but if you had to choose, which would it be for you?
Most that live and stay in one over the other don’t know a difference. They can’t imagine being anywhere else. I’ve never specifically lived in either as we are in the suburbs but visiting both– yes. Warrior spent most of his younger years near farms, went to cities, and then settled in the desert or at least outside the area. Not quite the same as Indiana but closer than the big city. Sometimes we are too isolated so the middle works best. It’s all in the balance warriors.
I’d also like to really see NYC up close one day. Driving around the area isn’t the same but living there– NO WAY! It’s kinda like L.A. Too much city for me but I loved our vacation out there a few summers ago. We all have our preferences for living versus visiting but always know deep down what works for our life. Have you visited someone like the mice in the story and couldn’t wait to come home? We’re all the same.
I’ve mentioned things we like before and this can be one of them. Sometimes we won’t have a choice and have to live somewhere we don’t really want to be. All of us need to be grateful for where we are and always look to the good. If you are able to move, great. If not, appreciate all around you anyway. Some want a slower pace as they age and need to relocate. Some will live their entire lives in one place. Wherever you are, just make it home to you. I’m an outdoor person too and love the summer but when that isn’t happening, I make different plans~~ temporary as they may seem.
City warriors or country warriors makes no difference. As long as you are happy or at least try to be. It’s all about the feelings, remember? We know our likes and some never change. This is one for me that never will and there are reasons why. You’ll know yours too.
Take a trip, travel, visit, or whatever you like but know where your heart lives. The city or country becomes what you make it. Even though I am not out west ( just yet!) I make my country vibe here. Whichever mouse you are warriors, know it is part of you always. Warrior knew his place and I know mine. Find your place warriors with or without the Holidays. Be that content mouse right where you belong.
