Back to the Mat šŸ¤¼šŸ’ŖšŸ»

Hey there, warriors! I am back with some wrestling news for this one. Not always my favorite topic so much anymore, but I share to stay in the loop or even just to have my own point of view. We all need that, right? First off, that pic today is from one of the many ol’ WWF commercials that aired back in the day. This one was from 1990 when UW was champ. I had never used one so yet another that came to mind. Yeah, I know it’s a little blurry but super hard to capture an action shot.

So, the first HOF inductee of the WWE this year is Stephanie McMahon. I think it was kinda early to announce someone already but that news broke a month or so ago. Guess I forgot to post about it so here it comes today. I do believe she deserves it but here’s my POV. With her husband Triple H just receiving that honor last year, it seems a little too close together. Maybe that was their plan. Maybe they wanted to induct her last year but because of the scandal with Vince, they switched to him~~~ who knows? Vince should be there for his daughter so we shall see what happens. Who will induct her? I believe it should be a female opponent of hers years ago, just my thought. It shouldn’t be Triple H, she didn’t induct him. Undertaker is an idea, but he inducted his wife last year even though he does seem to be everywhere… 😯 Time will tell on it all, but she should be in. The only McMahon that might possibly ever be…

Now, we’ll move onto John Cena as I’ve been following the end of his career just a bit like I had said. So, there’s going to be a tournament to see who his final opponent will be. Wow. Has that ever happened before? He has been with the business over 20 years but not consecutively as is the case with many popular performers nowadays. He’s had a reality show and is a big movie star along with his own show ā€œPeacemakerā€ on HBO. I’m so glad he will not end as a heel, at least I hope not. They might bring back a few of his past opponents from years ago which would make it interesting. It all happens mid December. Let’s just hope he doesn’t pull a Tom Brady and come back out of retirement a year or so later! šŸ™„ My guess is a no what with all the other WWE programming available nowadays. John can have his own podcast, cohost another show, or whatever. He did write a book and cohosts the obstacle reality show ā€œWipeoutā€ so the future is bright for him. He’s still so young.

It’s my turn now, yay! I will G.L.O.W. for a minute here. Last weeks ā€œ 80’s wrestling the podcastā€ was all about that big Vegas showgirl venue of highlighting those Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Any readers remember it airing from ā€˜86 to ā€˜90? Of course I had to call in as it was pretty exciting to talk about more women for a change. The guy caller before me even was interested in what I had to say~~~ from my perspective so I had to bring my A game for sure.

I spoke for almost 10 minutes and wanted to remember much from memory instead of googling. I eventually did look up a few performers and watched one match with my favorite- Americana. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø I had others, but she was my girl., Ah, the memories and it was a great episode listening to all the other callers. They asked me to pick a topic for next week! What pressure. I DID before the show ended so they’ll expect a call from me again. it will be all about ā€œ Wrestling Families.ā€ You can say dynasties too, but not the Heenan family! My idea is several members who wrestled related by blood. OK, we do have a few parent child combos but I’m looking for at least three in a family. Here are a few I thought of : The McMahon’s, – (of course) The Hart’s, The Poffo’s , The Roberts’s, the Rhodes’s, The Funks’s, The Von Erich’s, and the Anoai family. Some are still quite active in the business, but some have hung up the boots or passed on. So many criteria to choose a favorite so I’ll be waiting to see how the guys do with that topic.

Well, I guess that makes yet another 3ļøāƒ£ count for you all today. Stephanie McMahon, John Cena, and G.L.O.W. What a combo. I hope you readers enjoyed and we’ll see what next week brings. I will let you know what the group explored on the podcast all about wrestling families so stay tuned for that! Oh, and a few guys added these comments regarding G.L.O.W. It did have similarities with ā€œ Hee-Hawā€ in some country type of segments so Minnie Pearl would’ve been great guest starring in some role. What a hoot to have seen that! Also, someone suggested Sherri Martel being on G.L.O.W. I think she also could’ve pulled that off whether she was ā€œsensationalā€ or ā€œscary.ā€ I totally agreed with both.

If anyone is ever interested or are fans of wrestling, please check them out if you can. It isn’t all 80s all the time either as they have covered way back and even to today’s world of the current WWE talent. I listen with the free Podbean app live most of the time since I’m home. It airs 10 AM, Thursdays, ET or you can find replays. They have a great group and I’m usually the only girl caller. The hosts are very friendly and Tommy Fierro is pretty famous himself. He owns ISPW in New Jersey and has been in the business since he was 17! His store is called ā€œThe Wrestling Collectorā€ in New Jersey. If in the area, check it out as I have mentioned it before. He has tons of merch and *LOTS* of things wrestling related. It’s so super cool! They do have a website also… Tommy does 80s and 90s wrestle cons every year with huge turnouts and he also has another local podcast. The other cohost is Jumpin’ Jay and he is a fun guy too who primarily runs the show. Such a great time always.

I will connect with you all next week so enjoy whatever your day brings. Plus, they might do an action figure merchandise episode soon similar to that commercial below. I’ll have to share the story of how my UW figure came to be. I only have one ya know, and that story has been shared and is in my book! šŸ“— I’ll meet you here back on the mat for my Wednesday writings… šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ«µšŸ»

P.S. I just thought of this to add. Tommy and Jay are always so complementary of me every time I call. It’s so heartwarming 🄹 to hear. They want me to call in more often and they say how I know more than I let on. It is true, but if I talked, I would talk forever! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

*** Nattie Neidhart will be signing her new book at Tommy’s store this weekend!

ā€œWarrior’s Winnin’ It!ā€ šŸ¤¼ā€ā™€ļøšŸ„‡šŸ’ŖšŸ»

ā€œ Warrior’s winnin’ it, Warrior’s winnin’ it Monsoon!ā€

That line was spoken by none other than Jesse ā€œ The Bodyā€ Ventura during the first few minutes of WrestleManiaVI~ ā€œ The Ultimate Challengeā€ match between Heavyweight champ, Hulk Hogan and Intercontinental champ, The Ultimate Warrior. It came to me a few weeks ago actually as a possible title with the WWE Universe celebrating the 3ļøāƒ£5ļøāƒ£th anniversary of their very first WM outside of the US yesterday. Toronto Canada in the Skydome (now the Rogers Centre) was set to host the 6th largest PPV event by the then WWF where lots of other exciting things happened. We had the 1st ever Mixed tag team match, Demolition 3-peating as Tag team champs, and so much more! I will stick to that title for title final match between HH and UW of course. Like I’ve said before~~~April 1 is no Fool’s joke for me and hasn’t been for 35 years!

Before getting into more on that, once again~~~we have a part 2 of sorts. Just like last week to end March, we have another to begin April. These remaining WM’s UW were part of are as follows: April 1, 2nd, and 5th. 1st was WMVI in ā€˜90, 2nd was WMV in ā€˜89, and 5th was WMVIII in ā€˜92. Today, marks WMV’s exact date. Fans of UW won’t like to remember WMV when Bobby Hennan (that weasel) held onto Warrior’s leg behind the ring so the ref couldn’t see. That way ā€œRavishingā€ Rick Rude could get the pin and capture the IC belt. Not to worry, though as UW got it back that same year at SummerSlam!

WMVIII was when we got a short glimpse of UW coming to the aid of Hulk near the end of his match with Sid Justice. Most fans know Papa Shango missed his cue, but Hulk was getting beat up by both guys so here comes UW to the rescue. He also did a brief press conference afterwards, which I believe was another first. It counts as UW being part of WMVIII but not technically a match like the other 5. So, the dates are 33 for WMVIII and 36 for WMV this year.

Let’s go with that date of April 5 as I recall a few other events. Newbies~ this is always for you but loyalists~well, read on if you wish. April 5, 2014 also brought Ultimate Warrior’s HOF induction as my family attended our first Cavs basketball šŸ€ game together in Cleveland that night. 11 years ago this week if you recall how the dates are the same for 2025. 2 signs fell in my home 2 years later in 2016, which are in my book: ā€œSpirit and Beliefā€ as stories but always remembered fondly by me every year. 2018 brought a book event as I chose that date of April 5 on purpose! Close to the library, I spotted ā€œSherri Apartments.ā€ Another beautiful moment which brought a chuckle my way and still does. Warrior had two women named Sherri (Shari) , spelled differently in his life.

Here’s something *NEW * for ALL of you to read. I told myself a few weeks ago that this year, I was gonna do it. Despite possible comments, it was going to happen on the big 3-5 of The Ultimate Challenge. Every year, I DO watch as a tribute on its anniversary AND my birthday, which I started decades ago with the VHS tape. I’m usually alone but early April would typically fall on the kids Spring break. I shared my daughter’s comment on Hulk once as I laughed so hard 🤭 but this year was set to be different. Instead of it being my possible lunchtime entertainment~ it could be watched after dinner in the evening or when the dog had been walked. My husband would be around and I did not care. I would LOVE for him to watch with me if he chooses, but either way~ it was time. I did watch it then warriors!!! There were a few topics not to be discussed if he watched with me. No mention of it being ā€œfakeā€ and no talk of steroids. Nope, that didn’t matter. He DID watch and we saw a few other things on my DVD as well. I said more about Warrior ( even outside of wrestling), but then let it go as I didn’t want to overwhelm him! He was super impressed with UW lifting guys up to press… 😌 So, a perfect lead into the next part of the DVD when Warrior discusses lifting Hulk… He totally stayed in the room to watch! A win for me too to FINALLY view it with him…

ā€œ Warrior’s winnin’ it!ā€~ just like that pic below after their ā€œ Greco-Roman knuckle lock.ā€ That was Jesse once more. On my end, I promised not to echo the commentary I know all too well or not to get a little emotional near the end starting with that hug as I tend to do. First time also the WWF used pyrotechnics as UW got that awesome fireworks display. New decade, new year, new champ, a great 3 count!

Regardless of naysayers or even HH’s ā€œtakeā€ on how it all went down specifically, it still was an epic match unprecedented between two true icons in the business. Two good guys for the title~~ another first. I was grateful to hear how emotional Warrior was after that match as many may have just thought he felt entitled only. He wanted to get to that level and did. Very few had that chance back then and despite him always saying: ā€œ I didn’t get him all the way upā€¦ā€ ( meaning pressing Hulk) in interviews, true fans didn’t care. Our hero became the new champ, which in turn made ā€œ Hulkamaniaā€ live forever, although it died a little that night.

I was a senior in high school- going on 18 with a big history term paper coming up. How could I concentrate on that? That’s been written and now Warrior’s kids AND mine have passed that age. My daughter ended all 4 of them last year. After viewing it for the first time on ā€œThe Ultimate Collectionā€ DVD years ago, I cried~ HARD… I had to pause it and walk away…That totally surprised me as of course I had seen it tons of times. Not on DVD though but outbursts came and went back then. A combo of many things rolled into one. 🄺

There ya have it warriors~~~the remaining 3WMā€˜s of April for UWā€˜s career in the WWF with a 35th in ā€œ The Ultimate Challengeā€ of VI being yesterday. Next week brings more memories for this time of year as we approach 11 with Warrior in ā€œparts unknown.ā€ Until then~~~ always believe as I remember the NEWWWW World Wrestling Federation Champion, The Ultimate Warrior!!!

P.S. 2 Tuesday dates a week apart, just like 11 years ago… 🄹
