Saints and Scary Stuff 🙏🏻😱🎃

Tomorrow is Halloween or All Hallows Eve if you prefer. That was always such a busy time when I was younger. The reasons being that day or night really, and the next few days as well. November 1 is All Saints Day and the 2nd celebrates All Souls. Of course those are Christian holidays, but ones we recognized when growing up. Being in 1st grade was when we dress up as our “patron” Saint or one you’d be named after. Yes, us Catholics were named after Saints. It can even be your middle name. Mine is both. I did not purposely continue that tradition with my kids, but it just so happens their middle names are Saints. Well, I was Saint Catherine of Siena (which is a town in Italy) and I totally remember. I bet my old grade school still does that while singing “ When the Saints Come Marching In” at Mass. Such a cute fun time.

This post is supposed to be scary stuff though! I just wanted to reflect on some nostalgia. Many cultures have traditions different than ours as Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is all about parades, parties, and dancing to remember those loved ones who have passed on. The Warrior family acknowledged this being in New Mexico. Here, it’s mostly about the spooky and all that. I still love the cute Halloween costumes or seeing the littles but nowadays~~~ it’s more with scaring the living daylights out of everyone! That isn’t for me. As a teacher, we could never wear or use anything that would frighten a child. I was a clown once 🤡 but didn’t paint my face. I just had a red wig and nose, and that still scared a few! I would tell them: “ it’s just Miss Kathy!” This is back when clowns were remembered for being in the circus and not horror movies. They were considered good and happy…. Maybe you all have read my cat claws story or those times I was more boy costumes. My favorite was Sleeping Beauty. That was when I was a teacher as well. I bet you all have your own costume stories to tell too.

I never even went to haunted houses at all as my friends didn’t either. I’ve also said how horror movies or anything similar is not and will never be for me. My daughter loves some of it though. It affects me way too much despite it not being real. Hey, that sounds familiar! Great lead into some of Ultimate Warrior’s opponents. 2️⃣ come to mine for me. I bet you fans can guess., Of course it would be The Undertaker and Papa Shango. Even though I was older, they still scared me~~~ fake or not. They still would’ve even if Warrior would not have faced them, but obviously not in the same way. There were many other SCARY wrestlers over the years and some just frustrated me. I used to love clowns as a kid like my costume when teaching. I had two clown dolls when I was a girl and one I ordered through a catalog. Horror movies and Doink the Clown ruined the fun aspect of them. I loved dolls too and then they also got put into horror films. UGH… I dislike it! What happened? Why do people like fright so much?

I’ll move onto a scary moment for me 5 years ago yesterday. And, it was a Tuesday just like this year. It has been written but a very unpleasant night for me right before Halloween. I won’t tell the whole story, but it started to happen October 29 when I was carving a pumpkin. My heartbeat went from rapid to very extreme. Thank goodness I was able to make it through my son’s Fall Band Concert before going to the ER that night. No medical issues were detected so that was great news. No one could feel it except me… The following week, my psychic medium friend helped out a lot as yes~~~ I believed. I did not go to her for that reason, but it kind of turned into that as I really needed some other kind of help. Even my husband became more of a believer during that time… BTW, 5 years prior to the day in 2013 WWE released 2K 14 in the US as I will always remember. Yeah, that date again. That was quite a frightful time in 2019 as I felt my heart literally beating out of my chest. It became the beginning of many spiritual gifts opening for me which I was unaware of back then. I had a few other scary moments which then culminated in my ulcer a few years later, but yes folks~~~ it all connects. It’s similar to my girl’s topics with her paper of last week.

Back to this holiday, how do you all celebrate? Is it full of Saints or spooks? Maybe both and as we all know, Halloween isn’t just for kids. It is fun to dress up and I would probably shock people if I was a-fright! I have shocked a few over the years with my choices though. It ends this month of October before the big holiday season begins…

I’ll wrap up with a positive note today. Not entirely saintly, but definitely not spooky. My girl has yet another assignment. This time, it’s designing a book cover for one of her art classes. She asked me for help once again and decided on cats. No, not a black cat that would relate to Halloween, ha ha! She loves cats and definitely our tabby. She had to decide on a byline (as she asked what that was…?) plus colors and images. I did not ask her to look at my book, but she did anyway. Awwww, proud mom moment. 🥹📗 Her book is about a library cat. Can you believe that? She used a book theme! Great lead into mine here. “ Spirit and Belief” is sold where you find books and if you’d like to read about my experiences with Warrior and spirit, look it up. You didn’t think I would let this go without a plug when she designed a book cover did ya? That moment presented itself for sure. 😉 I was so happy with my cover and still am.

However you do Halloween or the celebratory days after, just be safe and have fun. You can be a saint or spook, but avoid the trouble. Let’s honor and respect those who have gone before us in a memorable way and be happy for their time here. That is what they want from us. You can scare but do it in a fun way and not a frightful one. Happy Halloween, All Saints, all Souls, and whatever else you choose. Just don’t dress up as The Undertaker or Papa Shango! 😯Anyone remember 10 years ago when I saw a boy at my son’s school dressed as Ultimate Warrior for their Halloween parade? That was a post all its own and I will link below. Oh, my tears back then… 😭No pic of him on that post although I took a few just for me. The back of him and not his face. I am no stalker! At least I hope those kids didn’t think so…🫣

P.S. 10/30/17

*** Plus, there was someone dressed as a Gorilla 🦍 in front of him!!! Can you believe that? Warrior fans will understand or even fans of Mr. Monsoon… 😳

The Vacation Magazines 💙💙

This post has a lot of details BUT before getting into all of it, I heard WWE’s “Most Wanted Treasures” on A & E will FINALLY air The Ultimate Warrior episode this Sunday, July 14. Check your local listings to be sure so we will wait and see… 😬🤞🏻

Ok warriors, are you ready? Let’s start this match! As some readers may know, I have mentioned the 80s wrestling podcast guys on here a few times so those WWF magazines you see below are from them. The owner of ” The Wrestling Collector” store in New Jersey is a cohost on the podcast so quite often they have contests on Twitter or X ( if you will.) He will show a magazine, poster, some autographed merch, or anything similar. The first one to type ” CLAIM” gets it for whatever asking price, shipping paid. I had never done this, but decided to give it a try. I know they have to make money but $25 for one magazine seems steep to me. What the heck, I tried it and WON…

The magazine cover showed Ultimate Warrior after winning the IC belt from HTM (Honky Tonk Man.) it was November 1988 and the funny part is *THAT* was the same magazine I wrote about years ago. I was at the library as a senior in high school doing research and happened to come across that WWF issue in the stacks! So, after remembering that story, I played their game. They messaged me for shipping info and asked if this was Kathy from the podcast! Yeah, it was me. Payment was either PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or some others I never use. I mentioned PayPal and they gave me the store’s email. That was it. I have used PayPal in the past but wasn’t sure about their particular procedures, if there are any. Hmmm…

I waited a few days but no response back so I emailed them asking how to proceed with payment and got nothing. Our vacation (you knew that was coming from the title right?) was the next day so I kind of forgot about it. We were pulling out of the driveway on our way and my husband asked me to get the mail. I did and guess what? Yep, something was addressed to me from NJ. I couldn’t place it and hadn’t ordered anything recently. Then, after a bit, it hit me~ the magazine! As it turned out, it (or they) didn’t come with us as my daughter forgot her phone so we had to go back. Luckily, we hadn’t gone too far but perfect for me to put my package inside although I peeked a little. It was then I saw two, not one and neither was the cover they showed for the contest! What was going on? Maybe they do too many of these things as it gets mixed up! 🤪

So, both of them were from 1990 and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I only have one other WWF magazine from 1996 as I am no collector but to have both is ultimate!! More photos to come soon. The guys never have contacted me back at all, so no payment for them! Maybe Warrior himself helped me out on this… 🥰🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a few “funnies” from our trip too. The owners informed us that there was a snake, a 7 foot harmless non-poisonous one they named “Beatrice.” Later on, I saw a friend of hers, only much smaller. I was the only one to see the second one. I got close for some pics of Miss B, but she seemed to disappear after a storm. The owners have moved her, but she kept coming back to this big tree stump. I wonder if she’ll return to new guests? She was no Damien (Jake The Snake” Roberts snake for those wondering) but still. 🐍🐍😮

One of our first nights, my son was watching “SpiderMan 2” with his dad while his sister and I played a game. He decided to watch them all lately and this movie was from 2002. That was the year his dad and I got married, Warrior’s daughter Mattie was born, AND “Macho Man” Randy Savage was in this one. I knew that years ago, but had forgotten. His wrestling character’s name was “Chainsaw McGraw.” That I had to watch in order to know. Ah- Randy, thanks for being on our trip too, but stay away from Beatrice, ha ha! If you know how he got bit by Damien. 🫣

When driving home, we passed a fireworks store. 🎆 No, we didn’t stop then but did a few weeks later in Ohio as we were in Michigan then. The store’s name was SHANGO FIREWORKS… Yes, Kathy would notice that name. Maybe they were voodoo fireworks? If any wrestling readers know who Papa Shango was and his feud with The Ultimate Warrior. I’ll stay away though. 😂🤮Just kidding as I laughed like I usually do. The last tidbit was when my daughter and I went into the rest stop gift shop to get some candy for the way home. I bought us each a candy bar totaling $11.11 🍫That’s a great spiritual number if anyone follows that but I do so different number combos pop up on receipts for me from time to time. I love it, so cool. Thank you universe. WOW… 😉

Here’s another funny as one connects to the trip, the other one when we got back. The owners of our rental were Mark and SHERRY. We had a DANA 10 years ago on our very first rental and now a SHERRY. Warrior’s been gone 10 years so I’ll let you make that connection… Warrior was involved with 2️⃣ Sherrys- one personally and one professionally. That name can be spelled different ways. How about that?

Fast forward to after the vacation when I had to take my daughter for her wisdom teeth consult. We were sent to room 6️⃣ (welcome back number of mine) and later, the finance lady handling the money at the end was named Sherry. Oh my goodness, another laugh to myself warriors.

*** That’s the post this week so I hope I made you all laugh too and don’t forget about the A&E show this Sunday!

P.S. I’ll let you know if any more info comes my way about the magazine (s) as I probably can just go in and make the payment myself but I wasn’t sure? Oh, we left for our trip on 6-15. Our first full day there was 6-16, Father’s Day and Warrior’s birthday. Not planned on purpose, ever. Oh my.

🙏🏻💪🏻

Shock Value Moments 🐍

There’s a photo I thought to never use. Let me tell ya warriors, I had to pause that video so many times to get the shot. In my head, it was part of a shocking moment for me that involved the Ultimate Warrior and “Snake Man” Jake Roberts. You’ll never see the casket provided by the Undertaker but the snake pic I’ll use. Warrior’s career in the former WWF was very defined by many shock value moments thanks to Vince and his storylines. There were others outside the arena that happened too. Let’s stick to the scripted shows, shall we? Fans will always remember the casket, snakes, and even Papa Shango’s voodoo curse but what about other stuff?

Some may have been shocked seeing the Ultimate Warrior win the IC belt away from Honky Tonk Man or even taking the Heavyweight title from Hulk Hogan. Oh yes, T.V. or writers like to shock us fans and viewers, don’t they? I bet you can think of other wrestlers that gave us shocking stories, upsets, victories, and defeats. It could be a good character turning bad, someone betraying another, and anything else. It’s things we may even still talk about today.

Moving away from wrestling for a moment, how about other T.V. shows or the movies? A couple that stand out for me are “Roseanne” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” I was a huge fan of Roseanne and on the series finale, hearing that Dan had actually died many years prior at Darlene and David’s wedding shocked me. Roseanne had “written” it all up after that since she always wanted to be a writer. I am probably the only person to have never seen “Grey’s Anatomy” but still to this day many talk about Derek’s death or “McDreamy.” I remember being in the PTA years ago and our President would end the meeting earlier because of that show! Am sure you have your shows and their shockers but the movies or any type of media can do that to us as well. Sorry, I didn’t realize both of these involved the death of a character. 😧

I am not that girl to try and figure out a movie’s ending. My husband on the other hand talks and tries to reason it all out. I don’t want to listen when the “good” guy shoots someone else good! He was bad the whole time? I was shocked. Even books do that for me. I had been reading this one author for years and loved his stories of romance on the coast. Well, one book had an ending that shocked me so much, I decided to not read anymore of his. I know this sounds extreme but I wasn’t expecting that book to end the way it did. Yes, all of life can do that from time to time and should but it was my choice to pass his name by in the library. Has that ever happened to any of you readers out there?

With all these shock value moments, I am only referencing entertainment here folks so no personal details in your life which we all have. This also applies to Warrior and I think that had been covered enough lately. You’ll know if you’ve been around a bit. The shock stuff means someone will be stunned or surprised along the way. That someone may be an entire viewing audience or spectators. A good shock for me was when my very own Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA title five years ago from the Golden State Warriors. Yep, that was pure shock in the BEST way and also told in my book Spirit and Belief. That other team’s name mattered to me in a different way and will forever be extra special.

Entertainment pulls us in and keeps us wanting more. I used to hate when a show would be continued and see that on the screen, ugh! Come on!!! WWF did that frequently and left us hanging knowing a match wouldn’t be over in five minutes when the show ended. We do like surprises but when they don’t go in our favor, shock sets in. Of course I was biased when it came to Warrior or even others (yes, it’s true) but our reactions are what they want from us plus ratings. It can be “fun” for some to recall all those moments where we were pulled into and then got the crap shocked out of us. I say fun loosely because I know for me how the casket especially will never make me laugh. I had said before that I was glad Warrior and Undertaker were friends and they had a good time but for a fan like me watching that- nope not ever.

I could list so many more shocking memories of mine and they are never forgotten. Warrior became unforgettable for his many moments over the years that’s for sure and you will have yours. We remember it all because of how it made us feel and then respond. My family still would tell the story of having a snake around my neck at age six. I have no memory of that at all but considering my dislike of snakes, shock value 101! I had mentioned this story on here years ago… We all have our stories of shock but let’s stick to just being entertained. Our real life will be waiting later.
