The Balancing Act 🏋🏻‍♀️

How’s it going, warriors? I bring you a young Jim Hellwig in his early bodybuilding years today, but what a balancing act he had trying to figure it all out for his future back then. No black-and-white photo from me in a few years~~~ not counting a banner I used last year near Halloween actually. Warrior certainly was walking that metaphorical tight rope between career choices but we all have those moments right? It doesn’t even have to be quite in that way as my followers know me by now. My journey would be more like having 1 foot in Spirit and 1 on Earth and it can be a challenge balancing it all every day. All of us realistically are this way whether you truly identify with that concept or not. Most of us don’t need to work that scale of balance between fame and a personal life, but we all have other ideas that will tug on our rope.

Here’s a few thoughts of mine that I think you totally can relate with every day, all day. How about these? Who we are on the surface versus who we truly want to be, things we know versus what we share or even don’t share, and even work versus play. We somehow balance them little by little, even though nothing will ever be perfect or even on both sides. That’s just life and we need to believe we are doing the best we can. To circle back to Warrior for a minute, all you skeptics still doubting the spiritual aspect with him~~~ just look up info on your own. His “Destrucity” principles? His first comic book topic? Yep, it’s all there in those and a few other works he put out as it wasn’t just his wrestling career of UW.

None of us has the full proof plan for how to have all our ducks in a row 🦆🦆🦆, and it may never happen or at least not happen the way we would like. Life is not a straight line, it’s full of curves and detours. 〰️➰ Let’s always remember what Warrior spoke often and that is once again how it’s not the destination, it’s the journey. Yes, we all are heading somewhere but need the experiences and adventures to make it a great life. Some days we seem to have it all together and everything is even keel but then other days~~~ not so much as is life readers. Nobody has the answers and we don’t get them many times but we keep going because we are warriors and that’s what we do.

I’ll take this another way with me regarding balancing and maybe some of you can connect a little. In mentioning the photo today and the next few weeks, I did some research but had to balance my time that afternoon. I wanted a new pics and without seeing some I could use on FB or my collection, I went to Instagram which I had not in a while. I follow a few pages, but haven’t scrolled back through photos of him over the years. There are 3 groups I had seen and 1 didn’t take that long, but the other 2, oh my… 😬 Once I started, I had to finish~~~ you know what I mean? Time just flew by and I will not say how long but it did take over an hour! The scale was tipped with time that day.

As a parent, my life is a constant balancing act~~~ even with these young adult children. It just takes on a new form with them navigating their way through a different chapter once childhood dissipated. With all of us, life is always evolving, shifting, growing, and changing until we leave this planet~~~ even though it may not feel like it. What do you personally feel the need to balance day by day? It may change overtime or remain the same for a bit. How I like to approach it is to truly prioritize what actually needs to get done versus what isn’t necessarily as important. Always make time for those wants too but schedule your activities wisely. I do realize like my IG scrolling how time gets away from us but try to truly commit to a set block and stick to it. Give yourself 10 minutes to meditate (like me…) or 30 minutes to go for a walk, it doesn’t matter. I’m not talking about time spent at a paying job but those other interests we need to have in our lives. Warrior spent time working out, painting, and writing… ✍🏻

Don’t beat yourself up for spending more than enough on something that fills your soul because quite possibly, you were meant to do that. Not everything has to be super scheduled around every minute of our free time. Even if you need a nap, take it without guilt. As a wrestler, Warrior’s routine was very set in place with little time to just be. He tried to carve out some here and there when he’d be alone away from possibly partying or hanging with the guys. We can’t be in 2 places at once doing it all. Yet another reason I would never split holidays. That’s just me though… Some would split let’s say Christmas Day between 2 homes, but how very stressful… If it has to be done OK, but I am grateful it did not and still does not with my family.

Well, warriors~~~ is your scale tipped more to one side than the other today or will it be? Just accept that and begin again tomorrow. You might be in the circus act walking a tight rope or even like a pro wrestler balancing on that top rope *BUT* we always figure it out on the way down. Decide what really matters to you and leave the rest on the arena floor. We will always have things that need our attention in life but we also need to follow those things that want our attention~~~ big difference. I hope you know this. A young bodybuilder had to do just that when starting out on the road to success and we do too, just in the way that works for us. Warrior’s fitness always remained with him as part of his balancing act while other passions faded away. It just might be the same for an area in your life as I know for sure it is with mine. Lighten your load by moving some to the other side of the scale if you can. Work out those compromises and see if it makes a difference.

Your balancing act will always be part of your life. Will you balance, fall, or just walk away? Your choice warriors. If you fall, just don’t submit. Break out of that hold and start again.

*** I’ll be here next week for the end of October!!! Halloween is coming. Get out your 🎭 masks and face paint. 🎨

P.S. BTW to any of you Warrior fans ever wondering this concerning “ Destrucity.” YES… it did totally connect to Buddhism as I thought possibly many posts ago. Not sure if Warrior was ever asked that in any formal interview but believe me on this, it *DOES* relate. I have an “inside scoop” that is very accurate as a source so I can’t fully reveal how I know. It’s so great to finally get that answered… 💙💪🏻🙏🏻

There’s Always More..

*** Just a quick pat on the back for me here. This month I celebrate 1️⃣0️⃣ years of practicing yoga! Yay! Very proud of myself for reaching that milestone… 🧘‍♀️

Happy September warriors, month 9 here we come. Yes, of course there is ALWAYS more, but this time is yet another continuation of last week. First, you’ll see a bodybuilding pic of a young Jim Hellwig below. I decided it fit because of a cute story I have at the beginning today.

Last weekend, we had a family dinner on my side to celebrate my youngest sister’s 3rd marriage. Our kids couldn’t come so us 2 ventured out to a Mexican restaurant we hadn’t been to in years. It was beautiful eating outside a few feet from the lake as we all got stunning sunset views. 🌅🌊 My sis and her new husband brought his youngest boys and the smaller one took a liking to my husband. They started “hand wrestling,” not arm~~~ mind you. 💪🏻 It was so funny! He then moved on to me, and my husband tries to distract the boy by saying this: “ look, she has a tattoo!” You bet I do right where I needed it most and I said: “ that’s how I’m gonna win!” Of course I did, but he “beat” me the next round. I mean,, come on~~~ he’s 5… Such a cutie. Thank goodness he didn’t ask what the tattoo was! ( It’s UW’s mask for anyone new…)

Here’s the next part. The boys decided to share what they want to be when grown-up. The older one said “ a builder” but then the younger one got embarrassed because he isn’t always comfortable saying it aloud. Finally, he says “ a strong MAN.” You can take that however you wish as seriously with the hand wrestling and all, I believe him! 😁 Honestly, he meant it deeper like a strong man with emotion, not just physical strength like our guy down below had during that time. That’s why he truly didn’t want to say but what a sweet answer from him. I was glad to see the boys again, they made the night so much more fun. Ah, society with boys in that way and what they are conditioned to believe…

Alrighty then, onto the MORE of last week. *** Readers, this is a sensitive issue, so I hope you are open minded to receiving. If not, then it isn’t for you and that’s OK.

~~~ Once I began using that new app I hinted at the next day, I found a HUGE hawk feather in my yard. You better believe I looked to that as another great sign of confirmation. You might not feel the same but again, it’s validation for ME…. So, there’s that to add.
Another point with the app is it’s several years old but the technique began back in 2002, (the year I was married) so it isn’t a new thing at all. It’s just NEW to my understanding and curiosity level. I shouldn’t have to defend and explain but I will step on that “soap box” just a little. It DOES concern spiritual connections with our loved ones who have passed on. You can guess or even judge but NO WAY to a séance (for one…? um… no) and I don’t have a Ouija board app either. Nope, I’m not contacting random folks, that’s nuts! 🤪😱 I truly believe that people who loved us here on earth still * WANT* a relationship with us and don’t want to be forgotten. Yes, I get MANY vibes as you know but it can go a little further than just feathers, dreams, or songs like it is for me. Most know this.
Think about it from your perspective. What if you had people back on earth (after you passed) who never even mentioned you again, looked at your photo, prayed for you, or anything. Wouldn’t you be sad? 😞 I sure would. Yes, I KNOW they want us to get on with our lives and be happy, of course this is true. My Grandpa was the first close relative I lost back in 1991 when I was going on 19. Just because he’s gone here, do I forget he existed? Never but some people just do I guess. I cannot imagine ever doing that. I also know the afterlife or whatever you want to call it keeps them busy. Sure, it’s pure bliss (I believe) but the spirits aren’t sitting on clouds with angel wings playing harps all the time. Crazy what we are taught, isn’t it? 😇 ☁️ If you choose to believe it, do so but watching loved ones every minute of my day would bore the CRAP out of me up there. It’s part of the day, not the whole day. Just like my new practice. It’s a fascination, NOT a desperation. You have things like that in your life too I bet. We want to use our gifts in a positive way to better our lives here so we have to try new ideas once foreign or deemed impossible. This could be anything but just FEEL your way like I always say. If it doesn’t resonate later on, move forward.
This connection became part of my meditation and then I go on with the day. It leaves me feeling supported and loved by guidance given my way. After a bit, I might go back and take notes but it’s all good and I will continue on for now…
Warrior is one who could never be forgotten absolutely. His fame made sure of that but we need to remember our passed family, friends, and anyone else who truly mattered in our lives. Their life here ended but as souls, they still have work to do while continuing evolving. I know that might sound confusing but I’ve learned a lot so I love sharing what I believe with all of you. I can’t picture Warrior NOT learning, can you? He was all about that entirely and even as spirits, we can and do~~~ just energetically not physically. I won’t fully comprehend either but I always try my best while knowing my mission is to be here longer using my abilities.
OK, that’s probably enough of the “soap box” for now, although I can and will sometimes carry on. Your beliefs are yours but hopefully, you can get new knowledge as you journey ahead. If you choose to not communicate with passed loved ones (as we all can in our own ways) no biggie but just send them love, light, and peace as they not only will hear~~~ but will FEEL it and that matters most. My goal is to help in any direction which leads you to a better understanding of all this spirit stuff. We can love them all and still do life the best way because in the end, you want to say how good it was. Always more warriors…. I’ll connect with you readers again next time.
P.S. Both kids have started back to college and football 🏈 games are upon us! *** AND*** when I pass someday, I absolutely want to help my loved ones on earth anyway I can. With guidance and love always~~~ never spooking! 🤍🙏🏻
“ Hello, my name is…”
Happy March warriors! You will see down below ⬇️ a selfie of me as that is not going to happen so much this year. I had a photo all picked out but then decided a selfie was needed for today. You will know why as this post continues…
It’s my son’s birthday at the end of this month and he’s turning a biggie, 21! 🎉🥹 How is that possible? Still lots to talk about until then though. My title came to mind as I “wrestled” with others today. More on that in a bit, but did any of you watch “ WWE Rivalries” this past Sunday? I was going to mention it last week but totally forgot. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It was about the rivalry between Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan. If you missed it, I’m sure you can find it once they unlock episodes through the A&E app. Maybe another reason I missed discussing it is because every time there would seem to be an upcoming episode on the Ultimate Warrior, it would get shelved for some reason. I might discuss this episode more in length in a future post but for anyone wondering, there was no new information so watch if interested… 🙄
Getting back to those name tags, has anyone ever worn one of those as I can picture exactly how they looked?! This was brought up because of a recent experience. I have many who contact me, but most are marketers and not fully legit with genuine interest in what I write. I also do my research or homework to check them out and this guy was the real deal who cohosts a national podcast. I actually listened to one of their episodes which vary in topics greatly. Jesse Ventura was on a little while back talking about legalizing marijuana which was very interesting. After a few emails and a very brief phone call, they decided to pass on having me on as a guest. No idea on how they found my blog as perhaps people just search?? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I will admit, I was a little disappointed considering the host is a huge wrestling fan but I do write about much else as you know. The phone call was quite abrupt too. The reason they passed and the * ONLY* reason they passed is because I am not Mrs. Warrior. She used to write a blog as well many years ago but not anymore. Yep, they thought I was Dana so maybe on these writings from now on~~~ I will need to possibly sign my name, goodness. 🫤 I have to say this, their loss! It wasn’t for me so I will move forward. BTW, most of their topics are not about the famous either. Also, for a few of these posts~~~ I have signed my name, but you won’t see it very often.
“ Hello, my name is Kathy.” It’s not Dana or even Steve- who was UW’s former manager. Yes, I have been called him too but always with apologizes attached which is super nice. My name is listed on the book as part of the “ profile” for these writings but people perhaps are busy, get too excited before contacting, or even don’t read. I will take some responsibility though so I thank them for bringing that to my attention. Warrior I’m sure would never get confused for another but I gotta say~~~ when he rocked the hair, sunglasses, and some outfits in public, many mention others. Some names I have heard are Bret Michaels (since UW wore a “Poison” hat on occasion,) Ozzy Osbourne ( in his younger days,) Steven Tyler, or even Jon Bon Jovi. All this without the face paint on naturally. Unsure if Warrior would look at any of those guys as complementary but I do know he was an “Aerosmith” fan among others! It’s not like anyone literally thought UW was actually those rockers but just how he resembled them at times in certain ways. UW being that character was a rockstar as I’ve said before… 🎸 Even outside of the character, he still was called those guys!!!
I have also gotten called a celebrity years ago as this woman, (bless her) thought I looked like the actress Lori Loughlin. I had reddish hair like she did when on the sitcom “ Full House” back in the day. I loved the connection, not only because of her beauty but I liked John Stamos then so even better! He was a guy along the same time frame as Warrior so that made my day. 🤭 I was humbled by her comment, but has that ever happened to you? Maybe it has but the impression on you wasn’t favorable. We all might get confused with another’s looks, personalities, or familiar connection but what about actually thinking you ARE that person? I bet that’s rare. Mistaken identity for sure.
Maybe we should all go around wearing those name tags, can you just imagine? All the mystery would be gone and everyone would know you automatically. Well, we know that’s not how the world works and then we wouldn’t have these funny stories to share. There are those times when many say some could have a doppelgänger of sorts. When vacationing in Maine several years ago, we saw this man who looked exactly like my Dad! He even glanced our way so eye contact was made. The kids said: “ What is Grandpa doing here?” 😂 It was comical but I have had other moments like that too. Come on, I bet you have very similar experiences. What about comments such as “ your voice sounds just like…” It could be your laugh, smile, or just expressions that reminds someone of a person who comes to their thoughts. I’m not talking about a relative as those related will share many traits. A famous person however, makes it cool. You might disagree but it’s still a fun topic of conversation.
On a different note, readers may remember when I was a vendor at a book fair many years past and the woman next to me reminded me of my aunt. My mom probably would not think she looked anything like her sister but I did, when younger. It was beautiful to me because a few months prior, my aunt had passed away so this woman brought me much comfort. I told her that too as we had the best time together. My stories (as yes she bought my book) comforted her as well since she recently lost her husband of many years. So see, we can have those “name tags” if you will even with strangers who don’t truly know who we are. Those spontaneous likenesses are so aligned it seems as random folks have no history with us. It’s just an observation. We can take it or leave it.
Another I will end with just popped in my head. A cousin of mine had told me how she thinks I resemble a younger Maria Shriver. Oh, my, I would never have guessed that! 😯 She is still very beautiful and my cousin meant it positively. I don’t see the resemblance but was touched that she did. Maria, (who is related to the Kennedys) used to be married to Arnold Schwarzenegger AND he met a young Jim Hellwig during his bodybuilding days. That is before Jim became the Ultimate Warrior or was even into wrestling. How about * THAT* connection? Maybe I won’t need a name tag after all. Until next time~~~ this is Kathy, not Dana, Steve, Lori, or Maria! Ha ha ha! 🙋🏻‍♀️
P.S. Oh~~~ I did follow a little of WWE’s “Elimination Chamber” just to see. No spoilers here but something shocking happened of course! 😳I am not happy about it. Just like I am not happy about that Rivalries special as well, ugh. Anyways~~~ be YOU warriors because everybody else has their own name… 🫵🏻
Be your OWN Storyteller…
All right, you caught me. I am using another bodybuilder pic for the second week, but I have to say this. When first deciding how I could finally get into that topic just a bit, the photo I thought of initially was that one below of Jim Hellwig, (a.k.a. Warrior) once again only this time on the cover of a magazine. Bodybuilding began his storytelling if you will, although chiropractic school garnered his interest as well. After that, it became pro wrestling. What a story he had and told but we all can do this, just in our own way. What makes a good storyteller? I sure hope you think I am with bringing you this content but today, I am highlighting another area here.
As years went by, Warrior began to use his voice more than his body and to me became that much more powerful. If you’ve seen any of his video work, you’ll know but that’s not what I’m referencing exactly. I love his stories but it’s *** HOW*** he came across to audiences that made a lasting impact. The people who were there heard him share the intensity, discipline, and lessons that made his life work. OK, sometimes there would be yelling or 🤬 but honestly- ( without being biased,) I could listen to him for hours. He just had such a compelling voice that I truly believed resonated with interested people. For those unfamiliar, just LISTEN for a bit. Even if I had never known him as a wrestler, I would be captivated by his storytelling.
I have written about my former book club leader Pam who is another one of these people. She had this way with words that would totally just make me melt. I had given several talks over the years and was always complimented, but I can’t hold a candle to these very gifted ones. Pam along with Warrior knew how to carry a room with just the power of their voices that generated such stories. My interest was held and still is. I wish Pam well in her retirement down in Tampa, Florida. I miss her. My spiritual mother that I truly needed… ❤️‍🩹
Another woman who had been mentioned mostly on my older blog about spirituality was Louise Hay. She founded “Hay House” and their smaller company of “Balboa Press” published my book- ” Spirit and Belief.” Oh look, another plug. I had to have a 3 count! 📗 Louise was a pioneer and truly helped so many people with her generosity, programs, and gifted healers. Even if you disagree or are skeptic, just listen to one of her many, many videos out there or read her books. You won’t walk away disappointed but lifted and energized. Her voice (like I believe I’ve said before) just makes me wanna curl up in her lap~~~ in a good way of course. She was another beautiful storyteller and had such a fascinating life. Feel free to look her up if wanting spiritual insight or just to hear a positive voice which may draw you in…
The last person I’m writing about today is brand new to the blog, but he came to me so we get two guys and two gals. This man I had met as a teen through church. No fretting, this is not meant to be religious at all so keep going with me. Deacon Stan would always blow me away with his preaching and I loved when he was a co-presider. Another wonderful storyteller with a transcending voice that made me pay attention better during a service. From age 5 to 95, he related to everyone. It didn’t matter the topic of discussion, I could’ve stayed in that pew for longer than an hour as I do believe he did give other talks to different groups. Fast forward many years later as we had changed churches. He gets assigned to the parish we originally belonged to! It’s complicated but we were back there and here he was. I was so excited to be part of his talks once more as an adult with kids of my own. Again, despite the religious part of all this, he still could hold a congregation with his soft demeanor, yet fair sounding voice. His stories mentioned family, personal experiences, and bringing a Creator into the conversation. He could’ve read or talked about anything and I’d be hooked. Remember that expression of : “he could read the phone book!” That doesn’t stand today but you get my point I’m sure.
Deacon Stan became ill and eventually passed away several years ago now. He was so young to me… 😞 I no longer attend any type of religious service but still did back then. I cried for days knowing we’d be without such a profound storyteller. 💔 I can only imagine him using his talent up above to captivate audiences still. His voice was just like Warrior, Pam, and Louise, who were able to bring their stories to life where others could not dismiss or ignore~~~ despite some possible resistance. Yes, 3 out of these 4 have passed on but will forever be remembered for the impact they made with their voice, actions, and storytelling. Do you know people like this? I hope you do and treasure what they bring forth.
*** My daughter is part of this post yet again because of her recent storytelling which made me well up. 🥹🥲 She decided to write letters to all her good friends as they graduated a few weeks ago. She did not tell any of them about her act, but wanted to say goodbye on her own terms for their high school years together. I hope her friends keep the letters she wrote of remembering all the stories they shared. I was overwhelmed by the desire to let her good friends know how much they meant to her. Writing is storytelling too, just in a different voice. ✍🏻
***On Father’s Day (like several years past,) it would’ve been Warrior’s 65th birthday. No big b-day post for him this year but that’s OK. We will be on vacation like 2 years ago for Father’s Day but not intentional. I’m taking next week off while we visit Michigan for a few days. We loved it there when my son graduated and now returning, only to a new area as my daughter just ended her high school years too. Her graduation was a beautiful night with many stories we will always treasure. I have said to tell your stories, however that looks whether you use your voice or the written word. You don’t have to be like Warrior, Pam, Louise, or Deacon Stan. Be the teller of YOUR stories so YOUR legacy will be felt by others willing to know it.
P.S. Catch up on past posts while I’m gone! HBD Warrior and happy Dad’s day to you always. 🩷🩷This ends the 6 months of year 10 with his birthday always culminating around now. 💙I miss him but his spirit is around everyday…
*** Get this~~~ I was at the store the other day copying photos to use for my daughter’s graduation party and the total came to $6.16. With tax the total came to $6.66. That can be a SCARY number to some but it’s me and my 6’s coming back once again… PLUS Warrior’s bday… 😉🫢 If I had added one more photo, I would not have had that total. I received a receipt totaling $6.16 a few years ago close to Warriors’s birthday as well. I always get a sign… How fitting now though that it was when I was making copies from my girl’s beautiful graduation 👩🏻‍🎓 night… 🥹 6️⃣6️⃣6️⃣
From Skinny to Strong 💪🏻💙
Welcome to June warriors! Summer☀️ will officially be here in my area later this month as it’s my favorite season. I told ya I’d be using some newer pics on here once again so as you can see down below, we have a young junior bodybuilder named Jim Hellwig, aka- Warrior. Yes, I can finally relate to *** THIS*** topic just a little as that part of Jim’s career was off-limits to me. If I can’t connect, it doesn’t get written as you readers know. Now, however, I have a story. I’m quoting from my book: “Spirit and Belief” for the second week because well, this story comes right after the tattoo one of last time. I had to look it all up since I couldn’t remember but how awesome to have a story about my daughter and my son in a row~~~ not planned. That story is called: ” My Skinny Strong Warrior” from chapter 24.
To rewind just a little, several years ago my husband bought our kids a beginners workout bench to use. I thought at the time it would get ignored and at first, it did not. After a bit though, it did as he eventually gave it away. 😟 The novelty wore off but I so enjoyed seeing them put it together. Here’s part of the story I wrote back then: ” My son seems so young and yet I was reminded of Warrior who was around this same age when he began lifting weights.” My son at that time was 12 and is now 20. 😳 I continue on with this: ” I hope he develops a consistent practice so his interest peaks more and more. This young man of ours might be finding his destiny just like another skinny kid did back in the day.” Well, he is finally more so doing just that- only 8 years later…
This final semester in college he had gotten a new roommate briefly. His one friend transferred back closer to home, so the new guy hailed from Maryland! Why he is studying in Ohio, I still am not sure 🤔 but we were told he is an amateur weightlifter. He had piqued my son’s interest and gave him some pointers. Some of those ideas I had given years ago but it’s always different coming from a peer and not a parent. When our guy got home for his summer break, he started using my husband’s workout bench as I just SIGHED knowing we had given away the other one. Nowadays, you can download a Fitness app to your phone or watch YouTube videos which is what he is doing. Times have changed, haven’t they?
Lately, he’s been slacking but began running 🏃🏻, playing more basketball while working up a good sweat 🏀, and then finishing with weights 🏋🏻‍♀️. He also improved his diet but by being home eating Mom’s meals and packing a lunch more, it helps. No more of McDonald’s 🍔🍟 while working all the time, heck no! He’s even lost a few pounds so it’s turning into muscle. Is he into bodybuilding? No, but is definitely taking a more active approach to fitness which started with his new friend. He may not see him that much come fall but hopefully, my son will continue down this more physically fit lifestyle. He was never a big kid but wanted more strength in his core.
We shall see what the future holds with his endeavors, but like I said in my book ~~~ I will stand by him and who knows, he might just have some help from that “warlord” up above. Years prior when in middle school, one of my son’s vocabulary words in social studies was warlord AND he even was a warrior in a game they played at school. All of his friends were peasants or merchants but HE was a warrior. He only shared that story with me and not his dad. How about that? 🥹 Warrior went from skinny to strong and now my kid is doing the same only of course not in the exact way. He was just inspired by another young bodybuilder type of a different generation.
Have you ever had something in your life that didn’t exactly work out the way you’d hope but then years later, it finally does? If you truly think about it, we probably all have at some point. Sometimes, it just isn’t meant to be or wrong timing maybe. Months or years go by and then it gets “locked up” to make it work. It could be a job that didn’t pan out, a move which doesn’t line up, or other issues in your life. You can let it go for a bit and just let it FLOW or keep pursuing it (like most of us do) where we push too hard, fight, and it doesn’t happen.
We need to abandon things at times because honestly, it shouldn’t be that hard and if it is~~~ it’s forced. The Universe helps or however you define it but we still need to do our part. Just don’t “over effort” like I’ve said before as I truly need to remember always. My husband pushed our workout bench on the kids and got them excited to keep track of reps, lifts, etc. but then it waned. We really tried to get them into other interests besides video games or YouTube. We need as parents to back off and let them choose their own way. We can give foundations or directions but then let it be as the seed gets planted. You can go from skinny to strong on your own terms but often, we need time to develop. It worked for Warrior to go fast but for most of us, we are not that rocket ship at full blast. 🚀 Enjoy June my readers and pick up a copy of my book if you feel so inclined for summer reading! You’ll find that story, last week’s and many more at a retailer of your choice… 📗Book plug, week 2…
P.S. Remember summer reading lists for school if you are old enough? Not to worry, no book report due! I always read mine— of course… 😉📚
These Warrior Extremes…
Just a few little stories for you all today warriors as I thought of these and wanted to “rope” them in together. While thinking of the word extreme– so much came to mind. Warrior was in many ways and yes, I am too. We all are but it just gets expressed differently. I remember hearing the song :“I go to Extremes” for the first time in high school and totally identified with it. You know, the one by Billy Joel? Of course it’s on my playlist but for me, very emotional. Not always what you might be thinking but these few tidbits inspired the post today.
It’s a 3 count too with a few way back and one pretty recent. I’ve always talked about having those balances but sometimes, it can be such a struggle. These stories today contain several extreme emotions that seem to connect despite very unrelated circumstances. Yes, they involve Warrior but as always– it’s my reaction emotionally that tells it all. The first one seems to creep up on me every time I go down a certain road or hear a certain song. Oh I know, a song twice on here but they usually are with me.
I believe it was the summer after Warrior passed but it might’ve been later. Sometimes, it blurs together. To this day, I still can’t believe how extreme it became for me. It’s one thing when you are just having an emotional moment at home or alone but all together different out and about around others. I was driving home from an event (in the car alone but still…) and had the radio on as usual. I turned to this John Legend song very popular at the time. I’m sure you can guess the title but all of a sudden, my eyes welled up with tears and I almost couldn’t see. The car swerved a tiny bit but not enough to be dangerous. I did love the song and still listen to it but was so overwhelmed how fast and extreme the situation became. That part of the road had a pet farm sign back on someone’s property but is no longer there. When going that way, I sometimes pause in my mind remembering how one song made me react in such an extreme way. Of course, I am not that way anymore but will never forget a Warrior moment that strong. Like Billy Joel sang: “why do I go to extremes?” Some songs should come with those warning labels- you know the ones like : ” do not drive or operate heavy machinery… etc…” Don’t you think? I do also wonder what happened to all those animals from that farm...
This next one is in the middle of our emotional extreme spectrum so all good from now on. I might’ve mentioned this several years ago but it’s on repeat for you long time readers. I’m still OK with my website ending but wanted to reflect on the many people who worked with me over the years and over the phone. One guy stands out in particular. For one, there were hardly any men that I spoke to but this guy named Mike bonded with me and I really liked him. From time to time the reps over at Balboa Press would call to ask if I wanted to order more books. Well, I bought too many and thought I could sell the old fashioned way. I did ask to finally get off their calling list as I’m never going to need any more. I will ship! 📗📗📗
Mike had called me and this time, I answered instead of it going to voicemail. I’m so glad I did as we had the nicest conversation. He knew my book of course but became fixated on the subtitle. This is HIS story… He was a bodybuilder who took a part-time sales job for extra cash. Totally was he aware of the Ultimate Warrior back in the day so we chatted a bit. It helped me to know he was also sort of close to my age so we shared experiences and memories. He could’ve cared less if I needed more books! Never was he pushy at all and then told me more… It seems he was a religious guy who worked out while quoting the Bible. He so would’ve fit into the Golden Era in WWF of alliteration with names. 🤣 I called him the “Bible Bodybuilder!” He laughed and mentioned his YouTube channel. I did tell him I would check it out while giving him my channel as well. Very interesting to watch someone power lift while reciting a verse from Scripture. He wasn’t a Bible thumper either but just sharing what worked for him in his life. It was a stimulating conversation with yet another extreme time of a WOW factor much different than my drive of the first one. I wonder what Mike is doing today? He went to extremes also and looked at Warrior for inspiration.
This last one happened just about a week or so ago. Our girl wanted to get out a board game as I begrudgingly said yes. The reason I initially resisted is because we will be inside much of the winter playing games. I love them but it’s a long season… 😬 She got out my old game of “Scattergories.” I won’t explain all the rules but you set a timer and write down words from a listed category. Our cat rolled the big dice as she gets very involved in board games with pieces. It’s so funny! 😜
Our letter was W and at the top of her list chosen was “Sports.” There are 12 different topics in all. Sports was number one. Well, I’m sure you all know what I was going to write. I told her we probably will put the same answer and she AGREED! To myself, I was thinking: “what if this was the athlete card?” Cue laughter again…. 😆 We finished after the buzzer and I told her to go first but I’m sure she knew what I wrote. Her answer was not wrestling but water polo! I fell over from laughing so hard! I’ve had that game since I was around her age, it’s so fun. Here we are yet again with another extreme emotion only this time much laughter. How in the world would she think her mom was gonna write water polo? Oh my… We played 3 games and I won so who knows which she’ll pick next. At least we aren’t on a phone and playing an actual game. My girl and her funny ways. Never does she have any idea that her antics seem to be all over my many blogs here. So extreme indeed...
“Eager to please, ready to fight
Why do I go to extremes?”
~ Thanks Billy Joel but we are always learning everyday. ☯️ Yin and Yang…
P.S. We are extreme beings with our emotions but balancing them is how warriors need to be.
Don’t Make Assumptions
We make assumptions all the time about everyone and everything. I’m gonna use that photo you see of a young Jim Hellwig training as a bodybuilder. Let’s see how a typical GUY conversation would go: (hypothetically)
Guy #1 “Look at him, I could be ripped like that!”
Guy #2 “He’s probably all fake or is all doped up.”
I could list more but won’t. They would either aspire to have that body or be jealous of it. **Let’s see how a typical GIRL conversation would go: (hypothetically again and of course a little different…)
Girl #1 OMG, he is so HOT!” ( or insert another word of choice.)
Girl #2 “Are you kidding? He probably thinks he’s all that and has such an ego!”
I could list more again but won’t. They would either think he’s super hot or think he’s an egotist.
What would your assumption be? It might be different if you know or knew of the man in the photo. If you didn’t perhaps you’d think he was indeed training for something like bodybuilding, wrestling, or just loving the gym. Maybe even you’d assume he was a model or male stripper? He so could’ve been! Even though some assumptions might be right, let’s try to not focus on the first three letters of the word ASSumption.
We often times “mislabel” people based on physical attributes. Many women get called “dumb blondes.” If too thin, they have an “eating disorder.” If they are well-endowed, they have had surgery for sure. It works in professions too. Some that are nurses get accused of not “making it as a doctor.” If you’re highly successful or intelligent, you become a “nerd” or “always bragging.” Am sure you could share your own assumptions and all of us are guilty. I’ve often heard how “pretty people have it easy.” Not true at all. They need to prove their worth is more than a face or even a body.
Not all of us base assumptions on outside or external factors. As a writer, it probably is assumed I’m anti-social, who knows?! I’m working on this more and more by really getting to the core or root of a person. Take this blog for example. I have often times pondered how my writings are always evolving. What started as mainly outward comparisons with Warrior has become much more internal and introspective. I obviously don’t mean physical discipline but ya know– that teen girl who means so much to me more now. More on that in a few weeks….😬
We need to find out people’s “stories” like I always say– along with the how and why. It isn’t just about the what. Why do you do the things you do and how do you do them? Are you assuming the worst or negativity in others most of the time? Maybe others are even assuming the worst about you.
My challenge for you is to ease up on those assumptions if you can. Next time you are around a group of people somewhere, try super hard to not assume the worst about them. I’ll do it too. It could be in a restaurant, the airport, a shopping mall, concert, or anywhere really. We don’t know their story and might never fully.
Many assumed the worst about Warrior without ever really knowing him. Sure, we do bring on a little of this ourselves but people are always quick to jump on that negative train. There is a reason why we open up to some and not others. Let’s not assume the worst and be open to giving the benefit of the doubt. We all need this life lesson and not just for famous people. Warrior wasn’t exempt from this either. Let’s respect and not assume…. 👊🏻👏🏻
