Build Up, Tear Down… (is it reversed?)

Before I begin, here’s another date I’ve been reminded of. 7️⃣years ago today is when WWE’s 2014 HOF inductees were announced. I read that somewhere and had to write it down. πŸ’™πŸ‘πŸ» All these dates that seem to line up on Warrior Wednesdays. A few BIG ones are coming but I’ll save them for March…

That pic of the Ultimate Warrior above was during an interview right before he tore down the set of “The Brother Love Show.” That was built up and then torn down. Don’t we all just want to do that sometimes? Of course that segment on T.V. was scripted but what about our real lives? I bet most of us sometimes feel the need to pick up a chair and throw it or something worse. It’s like shaking our own ropes. Our frustrations and emotions or even anger get the best of us. I’m generally speaking here and not addressing the recent events in the U.S. last week.

Despite the physical, we tear each other down all the time. Our thoughts, words, actions and everything in between affects us and others. Humans have a tendency to let our disagreements or differences get in the way and when someone isn’t on our side, sh** happens.

Many disliked the Ultimate Warrior character or even Warrior himself and tore him down. I know he was guilty of things as well but we need to build up and should as respectful people. Every single one of us starts fresh and new with whatever we choose in life. Then once we get noticed, say certain words, take action and such, we are torn down. It isn’t always those famous people either as we all know nor is it big huge things people do that brings them down. We can’t stay small and quiet forever but as soon as we build ourselves up or an opportunity comes, someone will always be there to tear it down.

All of us have been there. Think about those moments in your life where you built something up and made it happen. It’s all going great but then an opinion, remark, or event will get thrown at you and all your hard work gets knocked around.

Most know the build up of U.W. and how he, Vince McMahon, and the fans worked together. Then, perspectives shifted, differences began and it all started getting torn like his crumbling face paint.

There are consequences for our actions if they become extreme but some may not care. That’s their right. Our beliefs are in us for a reason and if we feel the need to share those, o.k. Let’s just be in control and remember to keep logic in the match. Even the best of arguments can turn sour or go south so to speak. My husband and I get along great but disagree on several heated topics. Have we torn each other down? Not entirely but we know better. Like I’ve said before, you don’t need to always agree but should always respect. That’s what builds us up.

It is quite the different life with fame as we all have our favorites across generations. When someone starts out, we know little about them but then we see and hear more from them. We still might be a fan but there are those actions that will make us disagree so much we don’t feel the same anymore. I’ve had that happen with famous people I admired or liked. No, this doesn’t apply to Warrior at all as most have assumed with my writings and never will. I can make my opinion known about him or stuff in his past but will never tear him down, ever.

Some may even lose a close family member or friend over a time because of something being built up and then unexpectedly torn down. You may have regrets but perhaps you don’t. Only you and that other person can decide on the best resolution.

Think about how you can even help if someone has been torn down. Your kindness or offer of support may just be what wins the match in their life. Things always start by building and then over time they wear out or get old. We can replace or repair but it may be too beat up. Then, we will start again and strap on our gear with new moves to build anew. Even wrestlers will tear down their gimmick and build it up again. You will be tempted to go with the crowd or with what’s popular but only your decisions will decide on the tear down or build up.

We’ve all been guilty of negative things in our lives but need to choose the positive. You can have your own point of view but use it in a respectful and honorable way. Let’s all be better warriors and work our best. We don’t need to be the reason of a tear down but should be the reason for a build up. The Brother Love Show had to go but real love never will…

P.S. It has come to my attention that some recent YouTube video links haven’t been working. Perhaps YouTube isn’t allowing sharing anymore, I don’t know.? If a link doesn’t access, just search up the actual YouTube channel. Some channels don’t have that many videos so accessing them shouldn’t take too long.

β€œI Can’t Go Anywhere!”

Congratulations!

Today is Your Day.

You’re off to Great Places!

You’re off and away!”

~~~“Oh, The Places You’ll Go.”
~~~ Dr. Seuss, 1990. (love that year!)

I just had to quote that ever famous children’s book. Having been a teacher of young kids for years, it was perfect for today’s post. I immediately thought of that story while remembering the places I went that brought Warrior to mind after he passed.

If you recall in other posts, I’ve mentioned how I can’t go anywhere so wanted to share some of those “great places” that made me laugh and smile thinking of Warrior. Some vacation places stories are in my book Spirit and Belief.

Let’s rewind several years back yet again…

I Can’t Go Anywhere

Feeling like I had brain fog was nothing new as the robotic me had to continue doing tasks while still dealing with the shock of his passing. The grocery store gave me that distraction I needed while walking down the frozen food aisle. Music is frequently playing so perhaps you can guess where this is leading… Have any of you seen the animated movie “Sing?” I know, I know… here I go again with a movie reference and another cartoon but they so connect! Anyways, it’s based on the show “American Idol” only with animals.

There’s this Mama Pig Rosita and she easily becomes one of my favorites. She’s shopping one day, hears music in the store, and breaks out some crazy dance moves! The security camera guy is amazed as she is greeted with applause afterwards. She is politely embarrassed but continues shopping. My adventure wasn’t as daring as Rosita’s but I so felt the music and was dancing with my cart just a little.

They usually play country or easy listening but then two songs in a row by Katy Perry. BOTH made me think of Warrior when they were released. “Roar” and “Firework.” How Ultimate! The lyrics also now make me think of me….. I couldn’t help but dance in the store that day as my fog disappeared for the next hour. Two songs by the same artist in a row in a store that doesn’t play music like that. Oh, the Places I Go.

I Can’t Go Anywhere…

The next place was Target but not in the parking lot this time. My son got a gift card for his birthday and wasn’t sure if he still wanted toys or not. He was ten but we looked in that aisle anyway. I had my eyes glued to where he was while knowing the WWE stuff was right across from us. This was early April 2014 so um, not gonna look over there… That wasn’t a problem at all, yay for my heart! We were however in line with electronics and all the giant big screen T.V’s everywhere. Our Ohio baseball team the Cleveland Indians were playing the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto. Darn, thought I was in the clear with toys and then I saw that. It’s now called Rogers Centre and not Skydome but still… WMVI for anyone wondering! Who would’ve thought a few years later I’d get my first blue jay feather in line with Warrior. Oh, the Places I Go.

I Can’t Go Anywhere…

Onto place number three. This would be a great three count but I do have a four! I went to Five Below working on some Christmas ideas for the kids a few years ago. I then spotted some preteen girls near the displayed posters. How cool to look thru those and maybe see if some would work for my kids. They still hang up posters, right? If you’re not familiar, you just look at them displayed and then match the number to the rolled up ones on the shelf.

I did get my son a Super Mario characters one and my daughter a dog one but not before seeing another one. Any guesses? Nope, not an Ultimate Warrior one, too tempting–lol! It was a classic WWE poster of past and more recent Superstars. Warrior was right there next to Randy, Andre, Jake Roberts, Rick Rude, Bret Hart, Ted DiBiase, The Rock, Steve Austin, Undertaker, Ric Flair, (I think?) and some others. One person absent– Hulk Hogan. Interesting but I sent a pic to my brother yet again with the caption of this post. Oh, the Places I Go.

I Can’t Go Anywhere…

Here’s the last one and it was out of my memory until seeing something that brought it all back. A few Christmases ago, we took the kids to see the movie “Daddy’s Home.” Yes, a few inappropriate parts but they were getting older. We loved it and glad there’s a sequel.

Right away I noticed they said the movie takes place in New Orleans. (Warrior’s HOF induction city, WMXXX) The one count… Next, the family sits around and watches one of their favorite movies together– “The Princess Bride.” Andre the Giant was in that. The two count… Dana has mentioned their family loving that movie too! Then, nothing else for a while as I just kept thinking where that three count would be or even if there would be one.

Shaking my head while laughing to myself was quite common then. The three count came at the end and for all of you who know the movie, can you tell? John Cena appears! Love how he’s in the second one too. I actually laughed a little too loud in the theater while saying his name! My husband said:”Is he a wrestler?” Oops, well– he knows now and John has been involved in several movies. I remembered all this while watching U.W. wrestle Andre on the Ultimate Collection DVD one day. Oh, the Places I Go.

Well, there’s my stories for now and am sure there are others but these along with the Dr. Seuss book remained in my head. Like I’ve said before, it’s the little things and expect the unexpected. Do your life and the “signs” will appear. It could be places, people, or things but just become aware. I am grateful for this journey of mine and Warrior’s everyday. Too many things to not connect and dismiss.

Think of everything you are grateful for as this holiday approaches. Really stop and appreciate all the Universe gives us and say “thanks.” That doesn’t seem enough but it means everything.

Thank you warrior fans for all you do to keep his legacy alive while remaining true to yourself too. Roar, be that firework, dance, sing, play ball, shop, take photos, watch movies, and enjoy the little things. Who knows where you’ll go along the way…

Bittersweet Milestones

Do you celebrate milestones? Some I do but always remember them all, good or bad– small and big. Many Warrior fans recently remembered the good (or should I say great?!) milestone of 30 years ago at #Summerslam 1988 when the Ultimate Warrior pinned the Honky Tonk Man for the Intercontinental Title. I can’t believe I was almost 16 then which is how old Mattigan Warrior will be later this year.

The Ultimate Warrior character made his television debut 30 years ago last year and did I celebrate? No, but I sure remembered. Another “fond” memory of mine personally was remembering 25 years ago last year of a Saturday Night’s Main Event match with the Ultimate Maniacs vs. Money Inc. for the tag team belts. That story is in my book Spirit and Belief (in a way) and part of that day I will always keep to myself– sorry! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜³πŸ˜¬ #Summerslam 1992 between the Ultimate Warrior and “Macho Man” Randy Savage was also 25 years ago last year and also part of my book in the “Dreams” chapter.

Let’s look ahead a little. Very soon I will have 100 posts on this blog and that number astounds me. THANK YOU always to everyone reading and sharing. It truly means the world to me. It also has reached over 30+ countries and 6 continents. (There’s those numbers again!) I am so glad to be impacting the world with my voice and message. Hopefully, I’ve inspired some of you to do the same.

Next year of 2019 brings so many milestones and several involve the Warrior family. Warrior and Dana would’ve been married 20 years, Warrior will be gone then for 5, Indiana I believe will be graduating high school, and Warrior would’ve been turning 60. *** I needed to pause but am back now.*** Will they be celebrating and remembering these bittersweet milestones? That is up to Dana and her girls but perhaps she will share some of this with us fans. Their privacy is to be respected but I will reflect on these as well with much emotion.

My husband and I will celebrate 20 years since we first met in 2019 and that number is so staggering. Sometimes, time does really feel that long as the date implies but sometimes it’s the blink of an eye. Warrior’s passing seems to be both with me especially considering all that has happened since then. A photograph, video, or even a book can transport you right back in that moment as if nothing ever changed.

Think of how you are now and how far you’ve come. I know this is true for me as I hope you feel the same. Nostalgia brings many feelings but we need to live in the now. Warrior even said to do this everyday.

Let’s talk #Wrestlemania! Can you believe 35 is next year? I still remember the first one when my brother and I were brimming with excitement. I don’t watch now but certainly know all the details. In 2 years, WM6 will be turning 30. That number sure is popular in today’s blog! That was also the year I graduated high school so for all you newbies- no, I wasn’t 6,7, 8, etc. when Warrior WON!!! Warrior’s return in 2014 was also (yes, we all know) WM30 weekend. Maybe I should’ve included that number with this title…πŸ€”πŸ˜‰

Milestones will forever be there in our lives waiting for us to celebrate, remember, or both. I could’ve included lots more but these main ones made the cut on my list. Oh, one more is that I have a high schooler this year. Still getting used to that and will be for a while am sure. 😯

Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, deaths, graduations, reunions, and any other events in your lives should always be reflected upon with whatever way suits you. No one should force you to plan or attend anything that isn’t in your heart but there are some exceptions. I remember Dana saying that she and her girls do remember the bad along with the good. It is all your life and should be acknowledged but is up to you to determine how.

Warrior even mentioned he and Dana’s 13th wedding anniversary in a video and that number isn’t a milestone at all. His family growing up celebrated very little but she did. Small things can be celebrated too and should not be taken for granted. To think I have a connection with that number and him is humbling to me. She expressed on her podcast #TotalWarriors how their family loves the number 13. It has been a part of my journey with Warrior also. My post “Lights on, Lights off” is a clue but the rest can be another story!

Keep the bittersweet milestones close to your heart and remember always if not celebrating. I know I will but those great ones are worth the most. (SS ’88, WM6, WM30 HOF)

P.S. I have exciting news to share as details are coming together but great things for my ‘lil book Spirit and Belief! Stay tuned!!

Which Warrior Would You Choose?

Many times while watching Warrior on YouTube videos or seeing him with fans, a few questions lingered for me. Fans of course are there since they love the Ultimate Warrior but then Warrior himself is that character. He would always ask how they want items signed and for me, that’s classy. He lets them choose. Which name or “person” would you choose and why?

Before I personally answer that, a favorite video of mine is this boy at a meet and greet. They were chatting and Warrior says to the boy: “People say my hair has changed. My hair hasn’t changed, has it? It’s the same as it was back then, ain’t it?” The boy laughs and says: ” It has….” Warrior rubs his head as laughter ensues from the other adults nearby. Two looks, one man. I never forgot that video so just had to find it again.

Sure, he could’ve been unrecognizable to a child who sees the character and man as entirely separate. Warrior made his character so multi-dimensional and still him underneath it all. Many performers didn’t do that but their character worked for them in the way they needed. Warrior took such risks which proves his longevity today.

I’ll answer my own question of “which Warrior would I choose?” My teenage self only knew one but my adult self knows both. Warrior, Mr. Warrior, Dr. Warrior– whatever you want to call him, that’s the line I’d be in. What if we could have them both standing at a meet and greet with two lines? Whose line would you be in? I mention a graphic organizer in my book Spirit and Belief like a sun but here’s another one– a Venn diagram. Yes, I love ideas my kids learn in school.

A Venn diagram has two circles that intersect with a little space in the middle. The left circle would be the Ultimate Warrior and the right would be Warrior with that little space in the middle where they intersect. You list traits of each then the commonalities in the middle. It’s done in their Language Arts classes with comparing book characters.

I’m sure you all can list your own traits of both but the middle is most important. That’s where the two meet and become one. We are all the same, celebrity or not and we come together as just people. Even though I had a past with the Ultimate Warrior character, my present is now with Warrior. It is all connected whether in memories, dreams, or spirit. I loved watching him perform with all his intensity but the real guy and his message are truth enough for me.

We all have different sides to ourselves and with being a celebrity, you are the performer and real self. That’s the price of fame. Take away the running, paint, long hair, gear, screaming, and anything else Ultimate and then you just have Warrior. We all have stuff we hide behind and then there’s just us. Wouldn’t you want people to meet the REAL you anyway? Yes, it’s hard taking away all the extra things but sometimes that’s exactly what we need to do.

Warrior had the courage to step away from that character for a while and explore other business opportunities. Yes, he still would use that character with his livelihood but really, wouldn’t you? WWE and Warrior could’ve worked together for many years but that didn’t happen back then so he did it his OWN way. I get it. We can be a character but what we really want and need is to be appreciated for our realness underneath it all. Some may not like us, agree with us, or want to be around us. We all need respect for just being who we are behind the mask.

Yeah, I know this is deep but really think about it. We need to be us, whatever the cost. So, whose line would you be in? Is this an easy or hard question for you? It’s very simple ( my opinion) but does make me think of myself and perhaps the masks I wear. Do I let others see the real me? Well, I sure am doing better at that now with everything I’ve done. I have Warrior to thank for most of it, at least the Ultimate spirit stuff anyway. Pick your line and choose the right one. Get to what’s REAL and see beyond those masks and maybe hair…….πŸ˜‰
